- (1627-1693) (La Grande Mademoiselle)royal and political figureBorn in Paris, Anne-Marie-Louise d'orléans, duchess de Montpensier, or la Grande Madamoi-selle as she was known, was the daughter of gaston d'orléans and Marie de Bourbon, duchess de Montpensier. La Grande Madamoiselle took part in the fronde and, in defense of louis ii, prince de condé, ordered the cannons of the bastille to fire upon the royal troops during the battle of the faubourg Saint-Antoine (1752). She was one of the wealthiest heiresses in Europe and several times made marriage plans, all of which came to naught. Finally, she secretly married the duke de lauzun (1681), from whom she soon separated. La Grande Madamoiselle is the author of Mémoires, an account of her life.
